The Web Map Service provides georeferenced map images via a simple internet HTTP request from vector or raster data. WMS is a standard protocol defined by the OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium).
Shom offers two distinct services : one for vector data and one for raster data. WMS allows on-the-fly projection in many coordinates reference systems. With WMS vector It is also possible to request information about objets that were used to generate the map images.
