Supplemental Information

The characteristics of the surfaces included in the "Sea floor map, 1:150,000" are described in the fields called attributes, as follows:

- TYPEVALUE: Code name for the type of sea floor as per the Shom classification. The following table describes the meanings and possible values of TYPEVALE attributes:

NFC: conglomerate: sediments in which 50 -100% of the particles are larger than 20 mm.

NFCG: conglomerate and gravel: sediments with a conglomerate matrix and 15 - 50% gravel.

NFGC: gravel and conglomerate: sediments with a gravel matrix and 15 - 50% conglomerate.

NFCV: muddy conglomerate.

NFG: gravel: sediments of which 50 -100% of the particles are between 20 and 2 mm. NFGS: sandy gravel: sediments with a gravel matrix and 15 - 50% sand.

NFSG: gravelly sand: sediments with a sand matrix and 15 - 50% gravel.

NFGV: muddy gravel.

NFS: sand: sediments in which 50 -100% of the particles are between 2 and 0.5 mm.

NFSF: fine sand: sediments in which 50 -100% of the particles are between 0.5 and 0.05 mm.

NFSV: muddy sand: sand in which between 5 and 20% of the particles are smaller than 0.05 mm.

NFSFV: muddy fine sand: fine sand in which between 5 and 20% of the particles are smaller than 0.05 mm.

NFVS: sandy mud: sand in which between 20 and 50% of the particles are smaller than 0.05 mm.

NFV: mud: sediments in which 50 -100% of the particles are smaller than 0.05 mm.

NFRock: rocks: rocks.

NFSi: silts.

NFASi: silty clay.

NFSiA: clay silts.

NFSSi: sands and silts.

NFSFSi: fine sands and silts.

Statement

The product was prepared using the sediment data listed, converted and integrated in the Shom Sediment Database (BDSS). The solution provides a summary of data from the surveys completed in various eras using a range of systems: lead plummet with tallow acquired by the hydrography service (1820 - 1950); particle size analysis of sediment samples obtained by dredging, using a container, coring and bore holes (since 1890); MBES (MultiBeam EchoSounder) acoustic imaging and side sonar (since 1985); classification of seabeds by processing the acoustic signal from the single beam echosounder (since 1992); seismic reflection (since 1975); morphological analysis based on bathymetric data (since 1820). The surveys were carried out by Shom, BRGM (French Geological Survey), IFREMER, the universities of Lille 1, Rouen, Caen, Brest, La Rochelle, Bordeaux I and Corte, IntechMer, the Biological Station of Roscoff, the Conseil Général (Departmental Council) of Charente-Maritime, the Departmental Division of Equipment of Charente-Maritime, the Environment Office of Corsica, and the Independent ports of Bordeaux and Marseille. Shom oversaw the compilation of works.
